Ale Stenar, often referred to as "Sweden's Stonehenge", is a stone setting located near the Kåseberga community and is composed of 59 large stones placed in a ship-like arrangement. The formation is approximately 67 meters long and 19 meters wide. The stones which Ale Stenar is made of were carefully selected, sourced from the local area, and weigh up to 1.8 tonnes. The exact dating and purpose of Ale Stenar are still subjects of debate. It is believed that the stones date back to the Iron Age, about 500-1000 A.D. Some theories posit that it is a grave monument, while others believe it has astronomical or calendrical purposes, much like Stonehenge in England.
The monument is positioned on a hill with a stunning view of the Baltic Sea, which adds to its cultural and historical appeal, and also offers scenic beauty.
Particularly recommended is a visit at sunrise or sunset.
